Dental Check up in Marbella
A thorough, transparent examination by English-speaking dentists in the heart of Marbella
Your first dental check up in Marbella at R&H Dental is completely free. We provide a thorough, honest examination covering every aspect of your dental health — with clear explanations and transparent pricing for any treatment you may need. No surprises, no pressure, just expert care.
What Does a Dental Check Up in Marbella Include?
A dental check up in Marbella at R&H Dental is far more than a quick glance at your teeth. Our dentists perform a systematic examination covering every tooth, the gums, bite alignment, jaw joints, soft tissues (tongue, cheeks, palate), and existing restorations. We use digital X-rays when needed to detect issues invisible to the naked eye — including early decay between teeth, bone loss, and infections at the root tips.
Every examination includes an oral cancer screening, where we check for any unusual patches, lumps, or colour changes in the soft tissues. Early detection is critical, and this screening takes just a few minutes as part of your routine check up. If we spot anything that needs attention, we explain it clearly and provide a written treatment plan with transparent pricing.
How Often Should You Have a Dental Check up in Marbella?
For most adults in Marbella, we recommend a dental check up every 6 months. This frequency allows us to catch issues early — when they're small, simple, and affordable to treat — rather than waiting until they become painful, complex, and expensive. However, some patients with higher risk (such as those with gum disease, diabetes, or a history of dental problems) may benefit from more frequent visits.

What's Included in Your Check up?
A comprehensive 4-step examination that leaves nothing to chance.
Medical History Review
We begin every check up by reviewing your medical history and discussing any concerns or symptoms you may be experiencing
Why your medical history matters
Many general health conditions have a direct impact on your oral health. Diabetes, heart disease, certain medications, and even pregnancy can all affect your teeth and gums. By keeping your medical history up to date, we can tailor our examination and treatment recommendations to your individual circumstances, ensuring the safest and most effective care.
Understanding your concerns
Before we begin the clinical examination, your dentist will take the time to listen to any specific concerns you have — whether it's sensitivity, bleeding gums, cosmetic worries, or simply wanting reassurance that everything is healthy. This conversation guides the focus of the examination and ensures nothing is overlooked.
Comprehensive Oral Examination
A thorough clinical examination of your teeth, gums, tongue, soft tissues, jaw joints and bite
What we check
Our dental check up goes far beyond simply looking for cavities. We perform a systematic examination that covers every aspect of your oral health.
-
Every tooth surface — checking for decay, cracks, wear, and existing restoration integrity
-
Gum health — probing for pockets, checking for bleeding, recession, and signs of periodontal disease
-
Oral cancer screening — systematic examination of tongue, floor of mouth, cheeks, palate, and throat
-
Jaw joint (TMJ) assessment — checking for clicking, pain, or restricted movement
-
Bite analysis — identifying any issues with how your teeth meet that could cause wear or discomfort
-
Existing dental work — assessing the condition of any fillings, crowns, bridges, or implants
Communication in English
All our dentists are fluent in English and will explain their findings clearly and thoroughly. We believe in transparent communication — you'll understand exactly what's happening with your oral health and why we're making specific recommendations. No jargon, no rush, and always time for your questions.
Digital X-Rays & Imaging
Low-radiation digital X-rays reveal what's hidden beneath the surface — early decay, bone loss, infections, and more
Why X-rays are essential
Many dental problems are invisible to the naked eye. Decay between teeth, infections at the root tip, bone loss around teeth, and even cysts can all develop silently without symptoms. Digital X-rays allow us to detect these issues early — when treatment is simpler, less invasive, and more affordable. Our digital X-ray system uses up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays.
Types of X-rays we use
Depending on what's needed, we may take small intraoral X-rays that show individual teeth in detail, or a panoramic X-ray (OPG) that shows your entire jaw, all teeth, sinuses, and jaw joints in a single image. For complex cases, we also have access to 3D CBCT scanning, which provides detailed three-dimensional views essential for implant planning, wisdom tooth assessment, and complex root canal cases.
Diagnosis & Treatment Plan
We discuss our findings openly, show you images and X-rays, and create a personalised treatment plan with transparent pricing
Visual explanation of findings
We show you your X-rays and intraoral photographs on a large screen, pointing out any areas of concern and explaining what they mean in plain language. Many patients tell us they've never had a dentist take the time to show them what's actually going on in their mouth — this transparency is central to our philosophy at R&H Dental.
Prioritised treatment recommendations
If treatment is needed, we'll present a clear, prioritised plan. We categorise recommendations by urgency — what needs attention now, what should be monitored, and what's optional or cosmetic. Each recommendation comes with a transparent price, and we'll discuss financing options if the plan involves significant investment. You're never pressured — the decision is always yours.

Dental Check up FAQ
Common questions about dental examinations
We recommend a check up every 6 months for most patients. This allows us to catch any issues early and keep your oral health on track. Patients with specific conditions (gum disease, high cavity risk, complex dental work) may benefit from more frequent visits as recommended by their dentist.
Our check up includes a full medical history review, comprehensive oral examination (teeth, gums, soft tissues, jaw joints, bite), oral cancer screening, digital X-rays when clinically indicated, and a detailed discussion of findings with a personalised treatment plan. We also take intraoral photos so you can see exactly what we see.
A check up and cleaning are separate services, though most patients choose to have both at the same appointment. We offer a combined check up and cleaning package at a reduced rate. Your dentist will assess whether a standard cleaning or a deeper hygiene session is appropriate for you.
Not at all — we see many patients in this situation and there's absolutely no judgement. We'll perform a thorough assessment, explain everything we find, and work with you to create a manageable plan to get your oral health back on track. The important thing is that you're here now.
A routine check up should not be painful. The examination involves looking at your teeth and gums, gentle probing, and X-rays. If you have any areas of sensitivity, let us know and we'll be extra gentle. We're experienced in treating nervous patients and will always prioritise your comfort.
Yes, we welcome children and families. We recommend bringing children for their first dental visit around age 2–3, or earlier if you have any concerns. Our team is experienced in making dental visits positive and fun for young patients, helping establish good habits early.
Absolutely. We regularly see patients who are visiting or holidaying in Marbella. We can provide a comprehensive assessment, address any urgent issues, and if ongoing treatment is needed, coordinate with your dentist at home. We can also provide digital copies of X-rays and records.
Yes — we are the only dental clinic in Marbella with a publicly available written guarantee. All treatments come backed by this guarantee, provided you maintain regular check ups and cleanings at R&H Dental every 6 months.
